Introduction

The world is producing more and more information each passing day. To view this pieces of information in a computer requires a big amount of space, and a matching enormous display hardware support. That is simply virtually impossible; and at the very least, impracticable.

Solving the space problem while still enabling anyone to view voluminous data is the humble scrollbar found normally at the edges of the viewing port. The challenge of scrolling does not end here, however. It is the scrollbar which actually absorbs the original space problem. As the range of the scrollbar increases, it will find itself eventually lacking in space to precisely reflect the bulk of the information. A poorly designed scrollbar likewise becomes increasingly unpredictive.

How the scrollbar maintains its functionalities amids growing pressure from the data it represents is the heart of the design of the ActiveX nc Scrollbar.
